“Lies We Love” as a concept, was thought up in 2018 but at the time of completion, I didn’t really like the overall sounds and idea. So I scrapped the whole thing and even, at one time, completely lost the entire album.

Skip to 2024: I was able to recover everything and upon listening again, I got it…I got what I was trying to do and say, and where my headspace was at the time. It’s a much simpler sound than I was used to doing with less-constructed or layered tracks — and all of it was a reflection of the political times, my job loss, the general turmoil and uncertainty. Tracks like School Crush (the machinery of gun production while children died), the follow-up, Angels (what becomes of the survivors and their experience), World Goes By (a waltz-like entry that ended in the clapping of the masses, just doing nothing and watching the world go by), etc. ATCG is an avant-garde/experimental track about the formation of DNA and I think it works as I still hear my DNA in “Lies We Love”, even if it’s all been pared down.
